Teenage Fanclub

When Nirvana’s Nevermind and Pavement’s Slanted and Enchanted came out, I was in 11th grade.  I loved both records, but neither of them resonated with me as much as Teenage Fanclub’s Bandwagonesque.  My life was a bit too stable and easy for me to really connect with the angst of Nevermind and something about the ceaseless irony of Pavement kept me from totally identifying with them.  Teenage Fanclub was different.  I bought the record (cassette!) early in the winter of that year.  I had just gotten my driver’s license and I used to drive around town aimlessly listening to it.  The fuzzed out guitars, the Beach Boys melodies and the balance of irony and honesty was the perfect soundtrack for that cold winter when I was starting to think about leaving my hometown and going off to college.  I still love that record to this day.

This Friday, Miss Ohio will be covering The Concept from Bandwagonesque when we play at the Lakeside Lounge in NYC.
